Other Operating Systems
Developers keep making operating systems to call their own.
Maybe out of pure vanity we take pride of their programs or set of inter-related
programs as an operating system. The following list is in alphabetical order.
E/OS LX
is a desktop for MS-DOS,
compatible with Linux and
Win32 applications. It runs on an
i386 with 8 MB of RAM. There is a Lite version that only needs 4 MB of RAM.
Menuet
is written in Assembly and fits in a floppy. It needs mouse, i386, 32 MB of RAM
and 1 MB Display Vesa 2.0+ LFB. I have not been able to make this OS run yet.
NewOS
is an operating system that is under development written in C, C++ and assembly.
This operating system can fit on a floppy.
ReactOS
is a project to create an operating system compatible with the
Windows NT kernel,
DOS,
OS/2 and
Java subsystems.
According to the developing group, this system is 93.8% complete, current
version 0.3.0 RC1.
SEAL
is a 32-bit graphical user interface for DOS.
It runs on an i486 processor with 8 MB of RAM, DOS 3.0
or higher and at least 1.6 MB of hard disk space.
